GERES is a French NGO specialized in energy and environmental issues since 1976. In Cambodia since 1994, GERES works mainly on 4 topics:
- Reducing wood energy demand by promoting energy efficient stoves
- Providing sustainable energy supply (green charcoal, solar, biofuel, etc.)
- Supporting the design and implementation of a national wood energy policy
- Climate change and enabling access to Carbon Finance
The Climate Change unit (topic #4) raises awareness in Cambodia, supports project developers to fulfill the verification requirements of Carbon Finance, assists businesses in achieving Carbon Neutrality, and takes part in international climate networks. GERES uses carbon offsets not only to fund environmentally and socially relevant projects, but also as a climate change education tool for the private sector, a stepping stone towards changing ways companies operate, and to launch them in the fight against climate change.
In this context, the Communication Officer is a key position dealing with promoting GERES' active commitment in the innovative concept of Carbon Finance as well as supporting GERES' participation in international climate-related events.
